Many ways students can get involved:

1.  Marketing/Graphic Design Team:

All students involved in any way in the club can design a logo for the show.  PAW students vote on their favorite and the winning one gets featured on the cover of the show program (Playbill) and on the website but all entries are used as page art in the Playbill.  This team also creates and hangs signs to advertise the production as well as brainstorm other marketing avenues to the larger Ballard community.   Students on this team will help run the Logo contest and make our big sign for the show (called the marquis).

2.  Performers

There are lots of roles which are gender flexible so plenty of roles to go around.  All students who audition for an acting role will receive one.  All students registering to dance or sing in the chorus will receive that role.  Singers wanting solos will need to do a singing audition but will receive a singing role either in a group or as a solo.

        How do auditions work?

        - Auditions are designed to be low stress events.

        - Everyone who auditions for an acting role will receive one.

        - Auditions not only help prepare you for high school theater but they help the

volunteer judges find a role in which you can shine.

        - Auditions are "cold auditions" meaning that you have no lines to memorize -

you receive a page with the lines highlighted to read with 2 other students.

        - Auditions occur in the wings to keep them private.

        - Parents or guardians must register you online before you audition.

        Spring Musical details:

        - There is no need to audition if you want to sing in the chorus or dance.

        - Student wanting solos will need to sign up for a vocal audition after they register.

        - Auditions for solos should prepare in advance and receive song clips via email.

3.  Dance Captains: (Spring Musical only)

Students with dance experience to create and lead warm-ups as well as teach the choreography to students who were absent for a rehearsal.

4. Vocal Leads (Spring Musical only):

Lead vocal warm-ups and voice rehearsals.  This is part of the Stage Management Team.

5.  Costume team:

No sewing experience necessary!  Most costumes will be items that students have already in their closets.  This team will create sketches or descriptions of costumes and may actually fabricate or purchase some parts of them.  They will also plan the hair and make-up for the characters and can sign up to actually fix hair and make-up for performances.

6.  Set/props team

Artistic, hands on and/or creative students will be needed to design and create sets/props.  There are various props and set pieces from past shows that can be repurposed.  Last year students used PVC pipes to create a 15 foot tall mast for our pirate flag.  No art experience is necessary.  Lego experience does come in handy, however, as students create amazing things out of cardboard or PVC.

7.  Stage Crew

Crew will not begin moving set pieces until a week or so before show week so students should also sign up for another team such as Sets/props or costumes.  The curtains will close between each skit and this team is responsible for moving set pieces and props on and offstage, rounding up actors, opening/closing curtains, lighting board and spotlight.

9.  Sound Team:

This team will read the script, identify potential sound effects and either record or find these sounds online.  This team will then compile these sound effects on Audacity in the order of the show and play these sound effects during rehearsals towards the show week and be backstage during the shows.

10. Stage Management Team:

Returning PAW students can apply to be a part of this team while also working on another Creative Team.  This group of leaders will take attendance, help actors with their lines while onstage, help set up rehearsal, and organize the actors for rehearsals.  The Dance Captains and Vocal Leads are part of this group.
